HEAP Consortia partner Statens Serum Institut (SSI) is hosting a Consumer Purchase Data and Health (CPD) Symposium on Wednesday, 27th September 2023, from 12:30-17:00 CEST, to be held in Copenhagen and online. With topics ranging from practical uses of CPD via outbreak investigations to chemical exposures, and nutrition, the symposium will touch upon the vast array of ways CPD can be used to improve public health and ensure the safety of consumers. Additionally, panel discussions with the speakers and symposium attendees will address common challenges, inconsistencies in naming conventions and the future use of CPD in public health and research.

You can register for the symposium here. The symposium is open to all, and the deadline to register to attend in person is Tuesday, 1st August 2023. For on-line attendees, registration will remain open until the day of the symposium.

Statens Serum Institut is leading HEAP’s Consumer Exposure Monitoring System Work Package, which explores the feasibility of using CPD to model and assess the health impacts of household consumption. The team has developed a digital e-consent solution that allows citizens to consent to transfer consumer data from private receipt providers to research. To date, the My Purchases cohort has recruited over 400 volunteers, and the data will be used to develop lifestyle communication models to support lasting habit changes. This study could, in time, provide a starting point for a “consumer exposome” consisting of broad purchase data collection from several retailers combined with access to key health outcomes.
